Swollen Roanoke River Expected to Crest Overnight squib

At least two neighborhoods were evacuated and multiple drivers trapped in floodwaters were rescued by emergency services in Roanoke on Thursday, May 21, as heavy rainfall took its toll on the area, according to The Roanoke Times.The National Weather Service said it expects the Roanoke River to crest on Friday around 2 am at 16.4 feet, above the 16-foot threshold for a major flood.This video, shot by Carter Turner near his home in the area, shows a strip of land by the Roanoke River submerged, and he said he believes the situation “will get much worse as the day goes along.”The Roanoke Police Department told local media it was evacuating a Ramada Inn after the first floor of the hotel began to flood Thursday afternoon, according to reports.
